Hello, I’m Dan Roberts and I am a Psychotherapist, Writer and Teacher based in London.

As well as being an Advanced Accredited Schema Therapist and an Internal Family Systems-Trained Therapist, I draw from other highly effective models including cognitive behaviour therapy, compassion-focused therapy, trauma-informed stabilisation treatment, Buddhist psychology and mindfulness-based approaches.

I specialise in working with trauma, but help people with a wide range of psychological problems. My private practice is online, so I provide therapy for people throughout the world via Zoom.

Before I retrained as a therapist I was a health journalist for over a decade, writing for broadsheet newspapers, magazines and websites, so I am also passionate about writing. My teaching and supervision

I am a meditation teacher for Insight Timer, where you will find a wealth of resources (mostly free/donation-based) including courses, breathing techniques, guided imagery, mindfulness and self-compassion practices and much more. If you are struggling with your mental health – and especially if you have experienced trauma – practices like these are a crucial part of your healing journey, whether you are also having therapy or not.

I also teach webinars and workshops for people struggling with their mental health. And I offer supervision and training for mental-health professionals – teaching counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists how to incorporate theory and techniques from schema therapy, as well as other trauma-informed models, into their practice.

My approach to therapy

Schema therapy is a highly effective approach that is based on cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), but has been enriched and expanded to make it one of the most transformative styles of therapy currently available. Schema therapy can often help even the most stubborn, hard-to-treat, longstanding problems that other approaches cannot shift. It is a warm, compassionate, creative approach that can heal deep hurts and trauma, whatever you may have been through in your life. 

Internal family systems (IFS) is another powerful, effective approach that is based on the idea that we have different parts of us, especially if we have experienced trauma in our childhoods. Some of these parts hold painful memories, beliefs and emotions from that time in our life, while other parts help protect these vulnerable young ones, making sure they don’t get hurt again.

IFS is one of the fastest-growing models of psychotherapy in the world – and it provides a kind, compassionate approach to healing these hurt parts of us and helping us change habitual behaviours that may not serve us any more.
